The purpose of altar bells varies widely among different religions. In Wiccan rituals, altar bells are used for cleansing, protection, and invocation. When rung, the bell’s vibration clears stagnant, unwanted energies, and banishes negativity. The bell’s vibration also calls upon positive protective energies, and is used to invoke the Goddess. In most traditions, the bell is associated with the element of Air.
