Vintage Candle Wick Trimmer and Snuffer
In magickal practices, it is generally preferred to use a candle snuffer to extinguish a candle’s flame instead of blowing it out. This preference arises from the belief that blowing out the flame can disrupt the energy and intention behind the candle magick. By using a candle snuffer to cover the flame and deprive it of oxygen, you symbolise the capturing of the magick and seal it within the candle until it is ready to manifest.
This brass candle wick trimmer and snuffer, sometimes called a Box Snuffer, was commonly used from the 1700s until the invention of the self-trimming wick in 1825. These tools were essential for maintaining efficient candle burning, especially before the self-trimming wick revolutionised candle technology.
