Vintage Genuine Russian Podstakannik 

The podstakannik (Russian for ‘the thing under the glass’) is a tea glass holder, typically made of metal, designed to hold a drinking glass. Its primary purpose is to allow you to hold a very hot glass of tea, which is usually consumed immediately after brewing. This traditional method of serving and drinking tea is common in Ukraine and other post-Soviet states.

This authentic Russian podstakannik features a completely metal design with raised reliefs depicting rockets, the Moon, and stars. It dates back to the 1980s during the USSR era. The base of the cup includes the maker’s mark МНЦ Ц3p50k, along with a symbol resembling a bird within a circle. The thermal glass insert is modern and fits snugly into the podstakannik, making it perfect for holding your herbal brew during rituals. Maker’s Mark: On the Podstakannik base: МНЦ Ц3p50k. ‘MHU’ are the Cyrillic letters “МНЦ”, initials for copper/nickel/zinc in Russian (медь/никель/цинк ), Russian alloy metals called melkhior or Melchior.  The mark, Ц3p50k indicates the price (Ρ=rubles, Κ=kopeks). Along with a symbol resembling a bird within a circle.
Maker’s Mark: Thermal Glass Insert: an engraving that resembles ‘cowdy’ on the base.
Condition: both the podstakannik and the glass insert are in very good condition.
