Hunting Trophy ‘Fox Canine Brooch’
$95.00This antique brooch represents traditional Austrian hunting jewellery historically worn by both men and women to attract good fortune during hunts. The combination of fox canines and coniferous motifs, such as pine or larch, represents a balance between the hunter’s mastery over nature and a deep spiritual respect for the forest and its cycles. Historically, these teeth were worn as talismans believed to bestow the fox’s agility and stealth upon the wearer. Beyond being a trophy, animal teeth were historically worn as luck-bringing amulets to ensure success in future hunts. This 1950s Austrian hunting trophy is a rare piece. It showcases two embedded fox canines on either side of silverwork depicting local flora, either pine or larch. The hallmarks on the brooch's swing-arm clasp are illegible; possibly German silver.
