Vintage Altar Bell ‘Lady Crinoline Dress’
The purpose of altar bells varies widely among different religions. In Wiccan rituals, altar bells are used for cleansing, protection, and invocation. When rung, the bell’s vibration clears stagnant, unwanted energies, and banishes negativity. The bell’s vibration also calls upon positive protective energies, and is used to invoke the Goddess. This charming brass lady bell, also known as a servant bell, was primarily used in the 1800s to call servants into a room. The bell’s design typically features a lady dressed in a crinoline gown, reflecting the popular fashion of the Victorian era, where voluminous skirts were a hallmark of women’s attire.
In Wiccan practices, the lady bell can be incorporated into rituals and ceremonies, symbolising a connection to the divine goddess. The bell produces a high-pitched tone and stands approximately 10cm tall and a diameter of 6cm. A rare find, it is in excellent working condition, and only one is available.
