French Jet Hair Barrette

French Jet Hair Barrette

This striking Victorian-era French Jet hair barrette showcases intricate crescent moons and delicate daisies.

French jet is a black glass material used to simulate natural jet. It was commonly employed in mourning jewellery throughout the nineteenth century. During the Victorian era, French jet gained popularity as an elegant and accessible alternative to Whitby jet. Valued for its deep black sheen and light weight, it was frequently incorporated into mourning and sentimental jewellery.

Measuring 3.2cm in height, 7.5cm in width, and 0.5cm deep, the tension bar at the back is in good working order. While it shows a few signs of its age, its vintage character only adds to its charm, making it a lovely little showpiece.
